Though often overshadowed by the presidential race, local elections here at home still manage to capture some attention, and the residents of the Town of Pamplin City made their voices heard this past November.
Mayor Sarah Hamlett Blackwell, appointed Vice-Mayor John Marks, and Town Council members Ronald Franklin and Ruth Williamson were all re-elected unopposed. Shannon Reed, who returned to the council after some years of absence, along with newcomers Kenneth Swanson and Patricia Miller, were also elected after serving temporary terms this past year. Each member, aside from Ms. Reed, was duly sworn in during a brief ceremony before the Town Council meeting on Dec. 12 by Appomattox County Circuit Court Clerk Janet Hix.
Esteemed community members David Sexton and the late Ronald Kinest, Sr. were granted Resolutions of Honor by the council for their dedication to and involvement with the town.
