Dr. Bennett has dedicated 34 years of her 40-year career in education to serving the students, staff, and community of Appomattox County. During her tenure, she has been instrumental in fostering a strong educational environment and ensuring the district’s continued success.

"I am immensely proud to serve a division that boasts nearly two decades of full state accreditation," Bennett said. "Our team has worked to enhanced our Career and Technical programs to align with student aspirations, and have made substantial progress in facility upgrades and capital improvements. Moreover, we have recently implemented numerous security measures to ensure a safe learning environment for all. It has been an honor and privilege to work alongside such a talented and dedicated team of educators.

“Together, we have strived to provide the highest quality education for our students, preparing them for future success. Appomattox is a very special place to live and learn and I am so fortunate to have spent my educational career here.”

Dr. Bennett began her teaching career in Campbell County as a special education teacher before moving to ACPS in 1991. Over the course of 34 years, she has served as an assistant principal, principal, the director of student services, and the director of curriculum and instruction before being appointed as the division superintendent in 2017.

“In every position I have held, I have tried to keep children at the center of each decision,” Bennett said. "Fostering strong relationships and watching children learn, and thrive has brought me great joy.”

Bennett expresses her gratitude to the school board for their unwavering support and commitment to excellence, and acknowledges the invaluable contributions of the district’s staff, students and community members.

“I am confident that the district will continue to thrive under new leadership as the strength of this organization lies in each member of the team,” Bennett said. “I will happily assist in the transition process” as the ACPS School Board initiates a search for a new superintendent to succeed Dr. Bennett.
