The Virginia State Senate recently announced that a special election will be held Jan. 7, 2025, to fill the 10th District seat vacated by Republican John McGuire III, who won a bid to represent the 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives.
The 10th District includes all of Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland and Powhatan Counties and part of Hanover, Henrico, Louisa and Prince Edward Counties.
Early voting begins Friday, Dec. 27 and concludes Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025. Voter registration offices will be open for early voting on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Candidates listed on the Virginia Department of Elections website for the 10th District are Republican Luther H. Cifers III of Farmville, and Democrat John K. “Jack” Trammell of Mineral.
