Award-winning coach leads ACHS girls basketball program

The Appomattox Raiders girls varsity basketball team is embarking on the 2024-25 under new leadership in head coach Herb Daniel. The new coach takes over for Emily Hill, who resigned after last season following two years on the job to take a new career path, enroll in graduate school and move to Texas.

Daniel brings plenty of experience to the position, having coached the Gretna Hawks girls basketball program from 2008-2019 and earning accolades as five-time Dogwood District Coach of the Year and Conference 37 Coach of the Year, and two-time Area Coach of the Year.

Daniel currently coaches the Gretna junior varsity softball team and coached women’s basketball at Patrick & Henry Community College from 2020-2022.

A native of Appomattox, Daniel graduated from Rustburg High School in 1983 and earned a Master of Business Administration from Webster University, Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix, and Master of Science in Sports Administration and Master of Arts in Life Counseling from Liberty University.
