Appomattox Insights: Ride in the New Year with Grandpop

Howdy Friends!

It is hard to believe that it has been one year since I have been serving as your representative on the Board of Supervisors. As a board we have accomplished quite a bit this year. We fully funded our volunteer fire companies and rescue squad. The sheriff’s department was able to hire four more deputies. While maintaining a balanced budget. Another accomplishment is the getting our Department of Social Services back on track. Public safety and care for our most venerable citizens is of utmost importance to me.

I am grateful for the support of so many in the county. Your phone calls, both positive and negative, and prayers are greatly appreciated. It is you for whom I’m working. As we move into 2025, please feel free to reach out with your concerns and questions.

RIDE IN THE NEW YEAR WITH GRANDPOP

We didn't ride every New Year’s Day lately. Grandpop had a year every now and then, in recent years, when he just wasn't up to it. And I worried since he'd retired ol' Blue a few years back his heart wasn't in it so deeply anymore. He'd spent a long time brushing Blue this morning, explaining to him it was best he just stay in the barn and sit this one out. Frankly, I'd have been satisfied to stay by the fire and sit it out, too. But this year again, the trek to "ride in the New Year" as Grandpop called it, would be just him, me, and two fine-looking geldings.
