The Appomattox County High School (ACHS) Marching Band keeps on marching along with great success, recently winning its sixth Grand Champion award in school history. The band won the coveted high school award at the 2024 Brick Capital Classic Competition, which took place in Sanford, North Carolina.

Appomattox competed against eight schools in its division. Schools competed based on size from Class A to AAAA. Appomattox won the A and AA division.

Bands were judged on Marching, Music, General Affect, Percussion, and Color Guard categories. Appomattox finished first in all except Color Guard, where they earned second place.

The band performed this season’s theme show titled “Taken,� created to bring awareness to childhood trafficking. The show has been performed at halftime of Raiders football games this fall. Music was composed by Scott Gordon.

“The band was ecstatic,� said ACHS Band Director Bryan Allgood in regard to the announcement of the winner. “All members stormed the field to celebrate at the conclusion of the event.�
