Appomattox Insights: Board of Supervisors Update 11-18-24

Here are the highlights of the November Board meeting. Sorry I’m a little late…

Citizen Comments

We are happy to allow the citizens of the county to address the board regarding issues that are important to you. This month we had several citizens make comments. Thank you.

Appearances

We had some interesting and informational guests this month.

1) Mr. Larry Jackson, government affairs director of AEP, shared a project they are planning to bring Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to Virginia. They own a property in Campbell County and 60 adjoining acres in Appomattox County along the James River. SMR advanced nuclear power plants that can generate up to 500 megawatts of clean energy. They are beginning the early site permit application for this project, which they hope to submit to the Virginia State Corporation Commission in spring of 2025. They hosted a community open house on Thursday, December 5 at the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance. There were company representatives available to answer questions.
