Raiders football nipped by Hawks

On Friday night Sept. 22, the Appomattox Raiders traveled to Gretna to play the Gretna Hawks. The Raiders came up a little short, falling 31-23.

Appomattox head coach Doug Smith said the team did not perform well enough to win the game, for sure.

“They were depending on some younger and inexperienced players to step-up and get the job done, but that did not happen,” he said. “We must work to win throughout the entire week. That hasn't been happening.”

“Offensively Tre Kelso ran hard on Friday night,” he continued. “Josiah Perry and Tyshaun Napier are two players on the offensive line that we have been able to regularly depend on. Defensively, Kevin Fitch had a pretty good game with a good number of tackles for a loss. Tre Kelso, Ta Kidd and Jamorion Haskins had a good number of tackles as well."

Appomattox will host its Homecoming Game at Bragg Stadium this Friday night against Altavista at 7 p.m. Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness will be conducted pregame. Homecoming ceremonies will be at halftime.
