School board: division plans discipline procedure changes

At the Sept. 28 meeting of the Appomattox County School Board, Division Superintendent Dr. Annette Bennett shared changes in the procedures related to long-term suspensions and expulsions.

Dr. Bennett explained that the current board policy allows for the use of a division-level Discipline Hearing Officer to meet with parents and school administration when long-term suspensions, expulsions or alternative placements are recommended by the school principals.

Currently, all discipline hearings have been heard by the full school board in closed session meetings.
