On Friday, the Appomattox Raiders hosted the Altavista Colonels for Homecoming Night. Altavista won 56 to 16.

Before the game on Friday night, eight-year-old Abby Wright and her parents Amy Kleinbach and Jon Harmon, sister Ava and brother Cameron from Lynchburg were recognized as a part of the Go Gold Game for Childhood Cancer Awareness.

Wright was diagnosed with a malignant nerve sheath tumor in her neck in Dec. 2022. She has completed four rounds of chemotherapy and 28 rounds of radiation. She had surgery on June 1 to remove the tumor, and that was successful. Throughout the process, she loves the color pink, being with her friends and family and is a little league cheerleader at Brookville High School. Wright was able to meet the Raiders football team head coach Doug Smith as well.

Appomattox County High School Principal Luke Cunningham crowned Ryan Martin as 2023 Homecoming King and Harmony Troxler as 2023 Homecoming Queen.
