The Appomattox Town Council emerged from the closed session portion of its special meeting Monday night with news of a new council member. After Jonathan Garrett resigned Thursday, Aug. 27, due to relocating outside town limits, it became the responsibility of the council to select Jonathan Garrett’s replacement.
After deliberating over the applications received, the town council chose Aaron Tilton to fill Jonathan Garrett’s vacancy.
Mary Lou Spiggle made the motion after closed session to appoint Tilton to the unexpired town council term previously held by Jonathan Garrett. The term expires May 3, 2022. Timothy Garrett seconded the motion.
The mayor then held a role call vote; Spiggle, Timothy Garrett, Nathan Simpson and Claudia Puckette voted “yes.” Council member Paul Harvey was absent.
