The Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office recently introduced a new look for its officers that features a more lightweight and practical fit as well as a modified color scheme.

While the dark brown pants remain, the dark brown shirts are being replaced by a light brown shirt in order to reduce heat absorption. Also, much of the officers’ equipment is being transferred from the gun belt around the waist to a vest worn on the upper torso.

Appomattox County Sheriff Donald Simpson said that scientific studies have shown that a load-bearing vest is more efficient than carrying excessive equipment around the waist.
