Appomattox County murder suspect indicted by grand jury, requests jury trial

This morning in Appomattox County Circuit Court, 37-year-old Spout Spring resident Charles Roosevelt Abbitt, Jr. was indicted by a grand jury on four charges: second degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (first offense), possession of a weapon by a violent felon, and malicious wounding.

Abbitt is charged in the July 21 murder of 34-year-old Carlos Rican Roman, Jr., who died of a shotgun wound at Spring Grove Road in Spout Spring.

Abbitt requested a jury trial. The trial has been scheduled for March 3-4, 2022.
