The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors considered an application for a controversial special event that ended up being rejected by a 3-2 vote. Be Kind Productions LLC applied to host The Kindness Cup, “promoted as a cannabis education event.”
Several organizations and individuals were involved with the event. Tim Johnson, promoter of the event, was on hand at the meeting to present the concept to the board and answer their questions. The venue was to be DeVault Vineyards (owned by Terry and Sharon DeVault) in Concord. Johnson and his partner, Christie Torrence (who works at the vineyard), lead Be Kind Productions, which is listed as the event organizer. Be Kind Productions and DeVault Vineyards are known for their popular summer music event, the Be Kind Festival.
