Deputy Courtney Griffin of the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office.

Thursday, Oct. 1, was a huge deal for Deputy Courtney Griffin at the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office. He celebrated his 50th year wearing a badge in law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office

Griffin began his career serving in law enforcement on Oct. 1, 1970, with the Police Department in Petersburg, Virginia. On Sept. 15, 1975, he left Petersburg PD and starting working with Chesterfield Police Department on Sept. 16, 1975. He retired on Jan. 1, 2003, from Chesterfield PD and began his part-time status there.

Griffin has held many ranks over the years and joined the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office in October 2012 as part-time deputy.

“We could go on and on about Deputy Griffin,” the sheriff’s office stated. “He doesn’t mind working weekends, mid-nights or holidays. He will pick up the slack wherever needed. He has lots of interesting stories of events he was a part of over the last 50 years. But, most of all, he is deeply admired and a true gentleman. We are extremely lucky to work with Deputy Griffin. Thank you Deputy Griffin for your hard work and ACSO is honored to have you here.”
