Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 11500 Stonewall Road in the Oakville Community to combat a forest fire.
First arriving crews found a three-acre fire burning in a pine plantation. Concord Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) was added to the call for additional resources.
AVFD crews operating were Brush 4, Brush 6, Brush UTV, Engine 2 and Tanker 5. CVFD units were Brush 13-6 and 13-7, Tanker 3 and Tanker 4. Virginia Department of Forestry Forest Unit 2 and Bulldozer also arrived.
Lightning is the suspected cause of the fire from storms.
While on scene combating the fire, AVFD also responded to storm related calls. Within two hours, the fire department responded to five calls regarding downed trees and power lines, including Promise Land Road, Salem Road and Chilton Drive.
