Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, Appomattox Court House NHP is increasing visitor services to provide orientation and limited access to the McLean House, where Grant accepted Lee’s surrender on April 9, 1865. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and using a phased approach to increase access on a park-by-park basis.

Appomattox Court House NHP has increased access in these areas:

  • Daily: The National Park Store will be open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
  • Tuesday-Thursday: Park staff will provide orientation, roving interpretation, and an interpretive station on the McLean House porch. The McLean House will remain closed to visitors.
  • Friday-Monday: Park staff will provide orientation, roving interpretation, and access to the McLean House, one family group at a time. The McLean House will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

In addition, the following spaces continue to be available:

  • Daily: Park grounds, trails, and Clover Hill Tavern restrooms. The main visitor parking lot will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

With public health in mind, the following facilities remain closed at this time:
