An Appomattox County man was killed in a New Year’s Eve hunting accident, according to his family.

Donald Lewis succumbed to injuries sustained while hunting with his family on New Year’s Eve, according to his wife Terry Lewis and another family member.

The family stated that Donald Lewis was accidentally shot and taken to Southside Community Hospital in Farmville.

He leaves behind his wife, three daughters and nine grandchildren.

The Virginia Conservation Police and Virginia State Police, as well as Prince Edward Rescue Squad, responded to the scene.

Attempts to obtain additional information about the incident from the Virginia Conservation Police and Virginia State Police have been unsuccessful as of Tuesday.

The case is still under investigation at this time.
