Del. Matt Fariss facing charges in hit-and-run incident

Matt Fariss, the 59th District Delegate in Virginia, is facing charges as the result of a hit-and-run incident that occurred March 2. The 59th District covers Appomattox County, Buckingham County, part of Campbell County, part of Nelson County and part of Albemarle County.

The Virginia State Police issued the following press release:

On the afternoon of March 2, 2023, Virginia State Police responded to investigate a hit-and-run that had occurred in Campbell County.

A 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling south on Route 501 when it crossed the centerline, continued off the northbound side of Route 501 and struck a pedestrian. The Tahoe then left the scene. The adult female pedestrian suffered minor injuries.

Further investigation led state police to identify the Tahoe’s driver as Charles Matthew Fariss, 54. Fariss turned himself in and met the trooper at the magistrate’s office Friday, March 3, 2023.

Fariss was served with one count of malicious wounding, one felony count of hit and run and one count of reckless driving. He was released on bond.
