The Appomattox Raiders varsity golf team participated in the Heritage Invitational held at London Downs Golf Club on Thursday, Aug. 22, finishing seventh in final team scoring. The tournament was originally scheduled for Aug. 8 but was postponed due to rain from Tropical Storm Debby.
Jefferson Forest was team winner with 313 points, four strokes ahead of Liberty Christian Academy (LCA).
Appomattox finished with a team score of 339, one stroke ahead of eight-place Tunstall. Gavyn Simpson was the Raiders’ top-10 individual performer in the par 72 competition, tied for eighth place with Brian Osborne of Halifax at 5-over-par (77).
Appomattox travels to Dan River (Goodyear Golf Club) today. Results will be in next week’s edition.
