Englander resigns as president of Appomattox Garment Co.
Robert A. Englander, president and director of the Appomattox Garment Co., Inc., and the Lynn Manufacturing Co., Inc., announced his resignation from the two companies and the sale of his financial interest of them, effective Dec. 31, 1958. The Appomattox Garment Company operates as a contract manufacturer of children’s dresses with plants in Appomattox, Lynchburg and Altavista. Lynn Manufacturing, located in Lynchburg, is a cloth-cutting operation service the Appomattox Garment Company’s manufacturing plants. Succeeding him in management are Fred H. Lawson and Mrs. Evelyn C. Bailey.

State officials tour Appomattox landfill
The Appomattox County landfill got a ringing endorsement for its improvements from William L. Woodfin, director of the Department of Waste Management. With him were local officials Del. Watkins Abbitt, Jr. and local officials Bill Jamerson, Franklin Vaughan, Frank Carwile and Nina Beasley in a tour conducted by county solid waste administrator Charlie Peterson and county engineer Earl Dickerson.
Pennsylvania man arrested after scuffle
A 22-year-old Pennsylvania man, Woodford Mitchell Robinson, was arrested and charged with strong-armed robbery, assault on a police officer, and obstruction of justice at Bobbi Jo’s Mini Mart near the Sleepy Hollow trailer court.

Drunk driver sentenced for fatal crash
Jason Cobbs, of Pamplin, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Richard Blanton to serve six months in prison on a conviction of involuntary manslaughter for a drink driving crash that killed 16-year-old Nichole Battiste of Brookneal on June 1, 1995.
