The Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department was toned out second due with Gladstone Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service for a brush fire that had spread to a structure this evening on Walker's Ford Road.
First arriving units found a brush fire that had extended to a structure and a nearby vehicle. The complainants were working to help contain the brush fire upon our arrival.
While on scene, crews responded to another brush fire but returned to service shortly after discovering it was a control burn.
Units operating were AVFD Engine 1, Engine 2, Tanker 5, Brush 4, and Brush 6. GVFD responded with a brush unit. Special thanks from AVFD is extended to the complainants for their quick actions to prevent further spread.
Brush fires continue to be an issue in recent weeks in the Appomattox County area, in part due to dry and windy weather conditions.
