Monte W. Mays Midtown Museum opens to the public

If you’ve been wanting to see a coffee grinder, phonograph and bread maker from the late 1800s, or a World War II soldier’s cigarette pack that has never been opened, a vintage Marilyn Monroe doll, or more Elvis Presley items, you’re now in luck.

The Monte W. Mays Midtown Museum held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning to celebrate its official opening.

The museum displays more than 200,000 items and is located at 312 Court Street, Appomattox, across the street from the Appomattox County Court House. The Monte W. Mays & Associates tax office, which opened in 2008, is located in the same building. The Salvation Army Thrift Store was the most recent occupant of the space that now holds the museum artifacts until it closed in 2019.
