It’s 2024 and there’s a new sheriff in town, Appomattox.
Robert N. “Robby” Richardson, who was elected in November to lead the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office, was sworn in to serve a four-year term on Dec. 15, which coincided with his 40th birthday. The ceremony took place at the Appomattox County Circuit Courtroom with Circuit Court Clerk Janet Hix performing the oath.
“My feelings were grateful, humbled and surreal to accomplish my goal that was set,” Richardson told the Times Virginian in regard to his emotions at the time he was sworn in to serve the county in the position of sheriff.
Richardson has been employed at the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office since 2006, and most recently served as its major under former Sheriff Donald Simpson. When Simpson announced in early 2023 that he would not seek another term, Richardson announced his candidacy for the office.
