The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved a conditional use permit (CUP) for F.B. Litchford, Jr., for an automobile graveyard and a scrap and salvage service during their December meeting.
Litchford requested use of land at 1929 Richmond Highway (U.S. Route 460 West) on two parcels totaling 10.16 acres. The board approved the request by a 4-1 vote. The land is located near the intersection of Richmond Highway and Hummingbird Lane, where Litchford keeps a line of trailers from tractor trailers along the roadway.
The CUP was also recommended by the Appomattox County Planning Commission in November with conditions that address concerns from neighboring landowners and prevention of a public eyesore.
