First ever Juneteenth celebration in Appomattox held Friday

On Friday, the first ever Juneteenth celebration in Appomattox was held at Abbitt Park on Main Street. The three-hour scheduled event began at 5 p.m.

Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States.

Guest speakers were Appomattox County School Board member and retired pastor Al Jones, Virginia 5th Congressional District candidate Cameron Webb, and others.
