Virginia Sen. Amanda Chase (R-11th District) visited Appomattox on Friday as a 2021 gubernatorial candidate.
Chase arrived at around 11 a.m. and had lunch at Granny Bee's Restaurant. Throughout the day, Chase stopped by various small businesses to hear owners voice their concerns.
"A lot of them said 'We cannot sustain our business with where we are right now. We need to fully reopen,'" Chase said in regard to the primary message she heard from owners of small businesses - the ones who were not closed due to COVID-19 restrictions set forth by Gov. Ralph Northam.
Chase also met with several town officials and ended her day at Bull Daddy's Restaurant, where she arrived at 7 p.m. and greeted patrons, most of whom attended for the purpose of lending their support. Before leaving, she gave a speech to the sizable crowd in attendance.
The event named "Reopen Appomattox" was originally set to be held at Courtland Festival Park but was switched to Bull Daddy's due to a rainy weather forecast.
