5th Congressional District candidate Gloria Witt visits Appomattox

On Sept. 14 in Abbitt Park, the Gloria Witt campaign held a meet and greet featuring a Q&A segment and picnic-style refreshments.

The Gazebo at Abbitt Park was decorated in blue and orange balloons on Saturday, Sept. 14 as the Gloria Witt campaign held their “Freedom for the Fifth” rally. The campaign event featured speakers Rev. Dr. Coleman and keynote speaker Gloria Witt. The event included a small picnic under the gazebo and featured the musical stylings of the Quintana All-Stars Jazz Band, who played live for the enjoyment of rally attendees and citizens on late afternoon Saturday strolls.

Witt opened her speech with an overview of her upbringing, describing her early life growing up on a farm and using it to segue into a frank discussion about today’s economy. She highlighted her long history of community service, including but not limited to her work with the Boys and Girls Club of Lynchburg and the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). Finally, she went on to discuss her political views and fears for the country before segueing to a Q&A and meet and greet with attendees.

Witt is running for the 5th Congressional District. Witt represents the Democratic party and faces up against Republican John McGuire, who she claims is “pro-gun, pro-taxes and pro-insurrection,” the latter of which she substantiates by the claim that he was present at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2020.

“I know three things about John McGuire,” Witt said. “One, he’s pro-Trump, two, he’s pro-gun, and three, he’s pro-insurrection because he happened to be at January 6th.”
