Tamara Flamm loves swimming and loves coaching. As the new swim coach at Appomattox County High School (ACHS) — her second stint as a high school swimming coach — she hopes to raise the program to even greater heights than it already has been built by those who came before her, including Evans Thomas who resigned as head coach after the 2022-23 season.

Flamm, who was asked by Thomas last season to be an assistant coach, interviewed and was hired for the head coaching position following Thomas’ departure. Thomas will continue to coach the Raider boys varsity soccer team in the spring.

Born in Portland, Ore. and raised in Utah, Flamm was a swimmer in high school but ended up having two shoulder surgeries after continuing to swim with a dislocated shoulder.

After graduating from Dixie State University in Utah (now known as Utah Tech University), Flamm moved to Melbourne, Fla. to temporarily assist her sister’s family. While there, she met her husband and remained in Florida for 15 years, where she coached at Palm Bay High School and with USA Swimming.
