ACHS girls basketball coach Hayes retires ranked 4th on VHSL all-time win list

After a prestigious career of coaching high school girls basketball, Appomattox Raiders varsity head coach Tracie Hayes has decided to turn in her clipboard for good. Hayes has retired at age 60 after 27 years of coaching and 38 years as a teacher.

Hayes, the Raiders’ head coach since 2016, has compiled 593 career wins, ranking her fourth all-time in the Virginia High School League (VHSL). She had a 78 percent career winning percentage.

Before coming to Appomattox County High School (ACHS), where she also taught physical education and driver’s education, Hayes led several Lynchburg high school programs: Brookville, E.C. Glass and Heritage.
