Bids open for Babcock-Isbell House renovations

The National Park Services, United States Department of the Interior, issued bid forms and specifications for renovations of the Babcock-Isbell House at Appomattox Court House National Historical Monument. The house was built 1848-1850 by the brothers Henry and Thomas Babcock. Henry was the first Clerk of the Court at Appomattox County. Thomas served as Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Virginia Tech solar car visits area

A team of 21 members of the Virginia Tech Soloray project accompanied the VT Soloray Racing Car II to The Shoppes of Appomattox parking lot en route to Richmond where the futuristic-style car would be on display at an exposition.

Daughters charged in Prospect murders

The two 15-year-old daughters of Pamplin couple Carolyn and Marvin Mullens were charged with their murder that occurred Sept. 26 when they were both shot seven to eight times with a 22-caliber automatic rifle.

Van struck by train in Pamplin

Tragedy was barely avoided when a train collided with a van near Pamplin and three women escaped in the nick of time. The van was ran off the road by an unknown vehicle and got stuck on the tracks, and two of the women tried to dislodge it before the third woman inside the van saw the westbound train coming.
