The Appomattox Raiders varsity football team defeated the Nelson County Governors on Homecoming Night, Friday, by the score of 34-6 to stretch their winning streak to four games and improve their overall record to 5-3 (4-0 in the Dogwood District).
Raiders running back Jonathan Pennix sat out with a hamstring injury but was crowned as the 2022 Appomattox County High School Homecoming King at halftime. The 2022 Homecoming Queen is Karlie Lyle, who is a member of the Appomattox Raiders Marching Band.
Also honored Friday night, before kickoff, were the Appomattox Youth Sports cheerleaders and football players.
The game was stopped late in the third quarter after Nelson County junior linebacker Dylan Gray was injured while attempting to make a tackle. Play was delayed for a period of time while paramedics and athletic trainers stabilized him and placed him on an ambulance that was parked at Bragg Stadium.
