Appomattox man pleads guilty in Lynchburg murder case

On Tuesday in Lynchburg Circuit Court, 37-year-old Kevin O'Neal Allen, of Appomattox, pleaded guilty to second degree murder and other charges in the September 2020 shooting death of 25-year-old female Lynchburg resident Cansas Carolyn Crotts.

Allen and Crotts had reportedly been dating at the time of the murder that occurred at her home on Pocahontas Street in Lynchburg. Crotts was reportedly several months pregnant.

The case was previously scheduled for a jury trial on Thursday but that trial date was withdrawn. The plea deal was instead settled in court two days early.

Allen also pleaded guilty to four other felony charges: use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious discharge of a firearm inside a building, and two counts of child abuse or neglect/disregard for life.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 18 following the completion of a pre-sentence report.

Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney Bethany Harrison was unavailable for comment at the time of this report.
