The Appomattox County Animal Shelter at 3074 Morning Star Road recently announced that the shelter is full after just reopening at the beginning of this year.
“With the amount of strays and owner surrenders we have taken in lately, our kennels are overflowing,” the shelter stated. “While we are a no kill shelter, we still need space to help other pets within the community.”
Those who are looking for a pet can adopt from the shelter. There are many dogs ranging in age from puppy to senior that need a home. All adoption fees include spay/neuter, initial vaccinations and dewormer.
One of the dogs available for adoption is Yeti. He loves chasing after tennis balls in the play yard or just sitting next to someone, soaking up all the rubs. He needs a patient home that’s going to work with him on his socialization and manners. He would be best in a home without other dogs. Their fast movements make him nervous.
Another dog is a senior named Dixie, who needs a couch to call her own. She’s one of our more chill dogs at the shelter and would thrive in an adventurous home life, but would also be perfectly OK sunbathing on those warm days. Dixie is a well-behaved dog who knows a few tricks and is house trained.
Those who want to foster a dog for a few nights or have any questions on how to help may contact the shelter at 434-352-3103 or email appomattoxpets@gmail.com.
