Tom Garrett wins 56th District Republican delegate nomination

Tom Garrett has won the Republican nomination to represent the 56th District in the Virginia House of Delegates. The announcement was made Saturday at the Republican Convention held last weekend at Cumberland County High School.

Garrett, of Louisa, won the nomination over Kevin Bailey of Appomattox and Jennie Wood of Goochland.

After the first round of votes, Bailey led with 39%, followed by Garrett at 36% and Wood at 25%. However, after Wood bowed out before the second round of votes, Garrett surged ahead to win over Bailey, 58% to 42%.

Approximately 450 voters were in attendance, including 185 from Appomattox County.
