Sometimes new community traditions can begin during a holiday weekend. At Courtland Festival Park, carnival rides were spinning, children were winning prizes, adults enjoyed socializing with others, and the American flag was swaying in the wind as a new tradition began on Memorial Day Weekend in Appomattox.
From May 26-28, the Railroad Festival Board hosted its first annual Party in the Park Railroad Festival Fundraiser at Courtland Festival Park.
“It is a great opportunity to bring the community together during the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend,” said Secretary of the Appomattox Railroad Festival Board Kia Scott.
The event jumpstarted a new tradition in Appomattox, raised money for Appomattox’s Annual Railroad Festival in October, and entertained many people.
The Railroad Festival Board is hoping that this weekend’s Party in the Park is the beginning of a new tradition for the Appomattox community.
“This is our first annual Memorial Day Party in the Park event, and we hope to continue it,” Scott said.
