Although official 2023 election results won't be certified by the Appomattox County Election Board until Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Virginian Department of Elections website shows that 90 percent of precinct votes in the county have been reported from yesterday's elections. All precincts have reported but only Provisional votes have yet to be reported.

Votes that have been calculated thus far include in-person ballots on Election Day, early voting in-person ballots, and mail-in ballots received by midday on Election Day.

Other votes still being calculated include mailed absentee ballots, provisional ballots, and mail-in ballots received after 11 p.m. on Election Night, Nov. 7 -- all of which will be included in the final results Nov. 14.

Votes for write-in candidates also have not been added and will be adjudicated by Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Appomattox County Board of Supervisors Member

At the time of this report, the most hotly-contested race in Appomattox County is for Board of Supervisors Member in the Appomattox River District, where Ken W. "Dutch Henry" Wolfskill, Jr. (48.62% with 495 votes) leads incumbent William H. "Bill" Hogan (42.04% with 428 votes). J. Jerry Boyce, Jr. is third (8.15% with 83 votes). Write-ins account for the remaining (1.18% with 12 votes).

Results for the Falling River District seat on the Board of Supervisors show incumbent John F. Hinkle (61.48% with 557 votes) leading Laura H. Briceland (37.75% with 342 votes), followed by write-ins.

Trevor L. Hipps ran unopposed for the Board of Supervisors Wreck Island District and has a substantial lead (97.13% with 777 votes) over write-ins.

Appomattox County School Board Member

The Appomattox County School Board race for the Appomattox River District seat included all write-in candidates with no names on the ballot. So far, 509 votes have been totaled but final results will be announced at a later time, as stated above.

The Wreck Island District race for the School Board shows Jason L. Wells (53.66% with 462 votes) leading write-ins (46.34% with 399 votes).

Roger Brandon Stough ran opposed for the School Board seat in the Falling River District and has a commanding lead (97.98% with 826 votes) over write-ins.

Appomattox County Constitutional Officers

All five constitutional officers in Appomattox County ran unopposed and hold wide leads over write-in votes. These include the offices of Sheriff (R.N. "Robby" Richardson), Commonwealth's Attorney (Leslie M. "Les" Fleet), Clerk of Court (Janet A. Hix), Commissioner of Revenue (Sara R. Henderson), and Treasurer (Victoria C. Phelps). All are incumbents except Richardson, vying to replace current Appomattox County Sheriff Donald Simpson, who chose not to seek another term.

Robert E. Lee District Soil and Conservation Director

The incumbent, Bonnie A. Swanson (97.70% with 3,829 votes) holds a large lead over write-ins.

Senate of Virginia Member 10th District

John J. McGuire III, who ran unopposed in the race for 10th District Representative in the Virginia Senate, is leading in Appomattox County (96.86% with 3,732 votes) over write-ins.

House of Delegates Member 56th District

Thomas A. "Tom" Garrett, Jr., who ran unopposed in the race for 56th District Representative in the Virginia House of Delegates, is leading in Appomattox County (95.75% with 3,736 votes) over write-ins.
