Late this afternoon, the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Route 24 at the entrance to the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.
Appomattox County Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett said the cause of the fire is currently unknown, and there were no injuries.
Garrett also said it is believed that the vehicle might have caused several brush fires along Route 460 West from Mountain Cut Road, going west toward Appomattox in the area of Nash Construction. The fire department received word of the vehicle on fire while they were handling the brush fire calls.
Assisting at the scenes of the fires were AVFD Engines 1, 2 and 3, and Brush 4 and 6. Concord Volunteer Fire Department was called to assist but later disregarded when the fires were deemed to be under control.
