As an old saying goes, (25 years ago) “what can I say”? We just did things differently back then. Back in the day when Friday night rolled around, it was my time. The weekend was mine. I didn’t have to answer to anybody, didn’t have to work, and one night was for either fishing or stock car racing night.
I remember my buddy Bill told me to meet him at 10 o’clock in the morning. I told him if we are going cat fishing at night, then why do I have to meet you at 10 a.m.? I have done a lot of cat fishing in the Delaware River but I never fished at Spruce Run Reservoir. Bill told me he has been catching a lot of catfish but he has a secret. Bill was going to let me in on the secret. I meet Bill and we drive to Shop Rite grocery store. Every time I asked Bill what the secret was, he would just say wait. We go inside the store and head down the cat and dog isle. I still don’t have any idea what the secret or plan is yet.
I watch Bill as he grabs four cans of dog food. Now he tells me to get two cans. I’m thinking to myself I’m not feeding his dogs. Now as we make our way to the cashier, Bill points to the cans and says “Secret.” I am still lost. Bill says, “I show you where we are going to fish tonight.” We take off for Spruce Run. On the 20-minute ride I still couldn’t get any info out of him.
