The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors heard a six-year plan proposed for secondary road work in the county during their April 17 meeting.
VDOT Appomattox Residency Administrator Robert Brown discussed the draft for the six-year plan — fiscal years 2024 to 2029 — which outlines proposed projects to improve various rural secondary roads via paving.
Brown told the supervisors that there are only 24 miles of unpaved roads remaining in county. He explained that state allocations are not as high as they have been in prior fiscal years, due to both shifted monetary priorities and the successful work already done in Appomattox County.
“Unfortunately, our allocations have been reduced, not what they were in previous years,” Brown said. “That’s partly because of funding, I guess funding higher construction programs and additional monies that go into VDOT maintenance. But it’s also because we have gotten along so well, paving unpaved roads in Appomattox County…We have done very well over the years.”
