On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Appomattox County High School Marching Raiders competed at the 50th Annual Lynchburg Classic hosted by E.C. Glass and Heritage High Schools at Lynchburg City Stadium. There were 15 bands from all over Virginia competing. Classes were A, AA, AAA, AAAA, and AAAAA.

Appomattox went up against some big bands in Class 3A. Appomattox placed second in Color Guard, second in Music, second in Marching, second in General Effect and second Overall in Class 3A.

The Appomattox marching band is under the direction of Bryan Allgood and Katherine Lusk. Drum majors are Brett Fields and Adrianna Moore. The Marching Raiders have 60 members.

The Raiders’ show is titled “Taken.” It is meant to bring light to the terrible act of childhood trafficking. Music is all original by Scott Gordon and Sean Mullins, except for the closing song "It is Well with my Soul."

Allgood said "They are blessed with the growth over the years, especially while growing even during Covid years.”
