Lady Raiders running on six-game win streak

The Appomattox Raiders girls basketball team is playing some red hot basketball in recent weeks, racking up a six-game winning streak and improving their record to 11-7.

Last week, Appomattox defeated the Gretna Hawks at home 61-58. They also won two road games against the Buckingham Knights 51-32 and Altavista Colonels 49-31.

In a Dogwood District battle, Appomattox and Gretna fought hard throughout the game. The Hawks remained persistent despite several double digit deficits, only to fall short in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders’ defense applied pressure on the Hawks, forcing multiple turnovers from the outset. Despite not converting on a handful of opportunities, the Raiders held a 14-7 lead late in the first quarter in which Sarai Glover and Georgia Mills combined for nine points.

Tonight, Appomattox hosts Nelson County on Senior Night at 7 p.m.
