HAROLD JONES

September 19, 1947 – January 7, 2025

Harold Vernell Jones, was born in New Canton, Virginia on September 19, 1947, the sixth of nine children to James Jones and Edith Duncan Jones who both predeceased him. Harold was also predeceased by five of his brothers, Henry, Donald, Tommy, Michael, and George Jones.

He was a 56-year resident of James River Road in Gladstone, Virginia. He retired from both Lynchburg Foundry and Thomasville Furniture Company. He was a proud workaholic who passionately kept and loved second jobs and side hustles of every kind. Even in retirement, he enjoyed restoring vintage cars and became an avid farmer.

Harold Jones passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on January 7, 2025 at University of Virginia Medical Center from heart failure. He was cremated. His ashes will be interred at the St. Joy Baptist Church cemetery in a private ceremony at a later date.

He often reflected on having had a good and fulfilled life. His example of self-fulfillment and living an active and optimistic life leaves an example for us all to follow. He will be forever loved and missed.

A celebration of his life will be held at 12pm, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Bruce & Stiff Funeral Home in Appomattox with Rev. John Bartee officiating.
