The Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission met electronically on Friday, Jan. 8 and selected Mayor of the Town of South Boston, Edward Owens, as the next chairman of the Commission and Del. Lashrecse Aird as vice-chair.
The commission also welcomed three new members: Ms. Coley Jones Drinkwater of Dinwiddie, Mr. Richard T. Hite, Jr. of Kenbridge and the Honorable Thomas Jordan Miles, III of Buckingham.
The commission also acted on 19 funding requests including projects that will expand broadband access, support Virginia’s livestock industry and ensure that the workforces of Southern and Southwest Virginia are prepared to fill job openings as they become available through workforce financial aid grants in partnership with community colleges.
