Efforts are underway to explore the possibility of bringing a walk-in, urgent care medical clinic to Appomattox.

The Appomattox Town Council has discussed the topic in recent meetings, and formal interest letters were sent last week to 11 regional and national urgent care providers.

The search is spearheaded by the Town of Appomattox Economic Development Authority (EDA), which hopes to establish such a facility in Appomattox within the next 24 to 36 months, according to a copy of a recent letter written to target providers by Chairman Jeff Garrett.

The letter states that the Town of Appomattox EDA goal is to “secure a well-qualified partner capable of delivering Mid-level or Mixed Model services to the more than 156,000 rural residents living within a 35-mile radius of the town.”

Appomattox Town Manager Terry McGhee explained that mixed model includes a medical doctor, physician assistants (PAs), and nurse practitioners (NPs), while mid-level does not include a doctor but staffs PAs, NPs, technicians, etc.
