Challenger Bob Good defeated incumbent Denver Riggleman for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District on Saturday in Lynchburg in a new form of convention: drive-through.

Good claimed 58.12 percent of the vote to Riggleman’s 41.88 percent.

“Yesterday, 2,537 delegates came from across the district to cast ballots for the election of our Congressional Nominee and other important elected offices. This was the largest convention turnout that we have on record for our district,” reported the 5th District Republican Committee on its website.

Also winning Saturday was incumbent Melvin Adams, who retained his seat as 5th District Chairman, with a 59.48 percent - 40.52 percent win over challenger Daniel Rutherford. Nancy Rodland, Renee Maxey and Ed Yensho won the State Central Committee race. Maxey, along with Richard Viguerie and Jim McElvey, won the National Delegates race. Rodland, Velie-Deitrich-Hall and Mary Coran were selected as first, second and third alternates national delegates. Vigureie won the Elector race, 50.47 percent - 49.53 percent over McElvey.

The drive-through convention took place at Tree of Life Church in Lynchburg and featured numerous security features to ensure fair and accurate results.
