The “small but mighty” chorus program at Appomattox County High School (ACHS) has continued to see major successes this spring, several of which have occurred in just the past month.
In early February, sopranos Grace White and Lainey Woody, and alto Kaitlyn Hamlett, selected by audition to All-District Chorus, represented the ACHS Raiders in a performance at Blacksburg High School.
In the middle of the month, sopranos Grace White and Lainey Woody, were on the road again, accompanied by bass Miller Phelps, representing the ACHS Chorus in Louisville, Ky., for the American Choral Directors Association's Southern Region Advanced Honor Choirs. This unprecedented and historic audition selection afforded these Raiders the opportunity to rehearse for several days in the famed Galt House Hotel at the ACDA Southern Region Conference under the direction of renowned choral composers/conductors, including Andrea Ramsey, Kristina Caswell McMullen of Baylor University, and Sydney Guillaume. They performed for a packed house on the final evening of the conference at the prestigious Kentucky Performing Arts Center.
