The American Civil War Museum (ACWM) in Appomattox has a longstanding history of surprising the people of Appomattox and beyond with Civil War facts that not many people know about. Sometimes, people find out about these facts and become surprised. In other occasions, people can sometimes muse amongst themselves that maybe these facts make sense.
Recently, ACWM in Appomattox has been teaching people that the victorious Ulysses S. Grant did not end his life very victoriously. In fact, Ulysses S. Grant’s most bitter enemy was not the Confederacy. Instead, Ulysses S. Grant’s natural and most bitter enemy was his terminal throat cancer.
“There is a lot of general interest in General U.S. Grant and this program centers on parts of his life that many may not be familiar with,” said ACWM Director of Marketing and Public Relations Jeniffer Maloney.
On Thursday, July 20, ACWM in Appomattox hosted “Grant’s Last Battle” with Chris Mackowski to educate people about this accomplished yet vulnerable general.
