American Legion Post 104 names Boys State delegates

American Legion Post 104 Commander Ron Krauklis and Public Relations Officer Howard Gregory announced that Guss Spiggle, son of Paul and Cynthia Spiggle, and Austin Hodge, son of William and Sharon Hodge, have been chosen as delegates to the 2022 session of American Legion Boys State, which be held on the campus of Radford University June 19-25.

Spiggle is a rising senior at Cornerstone Christian Academy, and Austin is a rising senior at Appomattox County High School. Both were recommended by the staff at their respective schools based on their leadership, character and honesty.

Commander Krauklis congratulated the delegates on their selection and urged any rising junior in high school to notify their counselor of their interest in Boys State. The American Legion Auxiliary sends selected girls to Girls State at Longwood University each year.

Virginia Boys State is a leadership action program, designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the delegate the fact that our government is just what we make it. While attending, they will be addressed by key government officials and have the opportunity to learn the political process.

Each level of Boys State government will be run by those delegates who are elected to serve. They will receive instruction on the law and court system, parliamentary procedure and Virginia political history.
