Motorists within the Town of Appomattox now have to pay a $50 fine for parking violations. The ordinance came into effect Tuesday, Oct. 10 when voted upon by the Appomattox Town Council.
The fine was implemented as an amendment to the Code of the Town of Appomattox, Article III, Chapter 185, Section 19, entitled “Parking in conformity with signs; yellow curb markings.” Prior to the amendment, the code read, “No motor vehicle or other vehicle shall be parked on any of the streets or alleys of the Town at any time except in strict conformity with the signs or markings controlling such parking. Yellow curb marking means "no parking allowed.”
Until now, there had been no fines for illegal parking.
